Administration of the Professorial Chair Program
The Program is co-administered by both the SBCAF and San Beda University (SBU), with the SBCAF being the primary seeker and keeper of the endowment funds ranging from Php1 Million to Php5 Million donated by various alumni benefactors and friends. The SBU and SBCAF recommend the recipients of the Professorial Chairs based on the program guidelines set by the two institutions.
Through SBCAF, the faculty members will be assisted in the conduct of the scholarly research and thus, make San Beda University better achieve its mission of quality Bedan education.
Specifically, with the SBCAF Professorial Chair Program, the University will be able to:
1. Attract highly qualified faculty members; and
2. Encourage and stimulate scholarship through research
The recipient of the Professorial Chair Grant shall receive Php100,000 that will be released on a staggered basis, as follows:
a. [Php20,000] Upon signing of the Professorial Chair Contract
b. [Php20,000] Upon submission of Chairholder’s midterm progress report to the SBU-RDC
c. [Php25,000] Upon submission of the Chairholder’s final progress report to the SBU- RDC
d. [Php35,000] Upon submission of final research and after delivery of lecture in a public forum
Total: Php100,000
A full-time or part-time faculty member of San Beda University with an academic rank of at least Assistant Professor/Assistant Professorial Lecturer; or any academic who has a good track record of published researches presented in local or international conferences in the past five (5) academic years.
In exceptional cases, the SBCAF is open to granting a professorial chair even to renowned and distinguished experts and/or faculty outside of SBU if deemed to further enrich the research culture in SBU, at the initiative of both the University and the SBCAF.
Who can nominate a Potential Professorial Chair Recipient?
1. The head of the academic department as approved by the University Director of the Research and Development Center (RDC).
2. The SBCAF Committee on Research and Development with the approval of the SBCAF Board of Trustees.
What are the Duties and Responsibilities of a Professorial Chair Recipient?
1. Prepare a scholarly research within a period of one year, with the research topic already approved by the SBU-RDC and SBCAF;
2. Comply with all the administrative requirements of the SBU- RDC;
3. Render a progress report based on the Research Contract to the SBU-RDC;
4. Arrange and deliver a professorial chair lecture on the funded research in a public forum held in SBU and/or other venues designated by the donor; and
5. Submit a final copy of the research delivered to: SBCAF, SBU-RDC and the donor.

The Professorial Chair is one of the grants under the Research and Development Program. The grant carries with it a position of dignity and prestige, and allows the further development and enhancement of scholarship in one’s area of interest and expertise, thus, advancing the research culture in the University.
